“We rise by lifting others.” (Robert Ingersoll). Who knew that I would discover my life motto sitting in Mrs. Marman's classroom as a freshman in college, but not discover its definition until I walked along side those with exceptional needs. I will forever strive to better the world for these individuals just like they have bettered mine. I aspire to be a “change agent” for all children as I pursue a career in education. Their example inspired me to live my life by lifting others. If we all learn to live in this manner, we will rise as we should… together.
My Teaching Philosophy
“Great teachers engineer learning experiences that put students in the driver’s seat and then get out of the way.” (Johnson n.d.). I believe education is helping students choose a vision, provide them with signs to guide them in that direction, and encourage them to keep their feet moving in whatever direction they choose. I believe it is key to help students develop into the best versions of themselves. I plan to have students drive their learning through discovery and exploration. This can often be accomplished through play, as play is the most authentic form of learning. I will guide student learning by integrating hands-on, interdisciplinary activities that engage all learners no matter their modality. I will advocate for the needs of all students, as everyone deserves the opportunity to learn. My goal as an educator is to ignite each student's love for learning. I will encourage my students to not only define but achieve success, by inspiring them to be passionate about everything they aspire to do.
